Winter is here in all of it’s freezing glory! This weekend brides and grooms were rugging up left right and centre in a bid to escape from the season that seems to have just now really come into it’s own. But come rain hail or shine, the weddings must go on, of course! The following are a few details we love for Winter weddings, details that embrace the beauty of the season and all the things it makes us want to do....
The Love Seat
And one of those things that we love to do in Winter is cuddle! So, when we saw the pictures from reality TV star and celebrity blogger Lauren Conrad’s wedding of her and her new hubby sitting in their “love seat” at the head of their table, we thought, that rocks! Why have two individual chairs for the newly married couple when you can have a gorgeous antique upholstered piece that you can snuggle on together? Undoubtedly, LC’s chair is likely to have a hefty price tag. However there are many prop and furniture rental companies that hire out feature pieces like these love seats for special events. You could even use one from your own home if you happen to have something perfect yourself.
Rosemary for table settings
To give that cosy, winter forest feeling to your reception (without getting too Christmassy) use rosemary for your table settings. It’s gorgeous foliage and pliable branches make it perfect for use as napkin rings, wrapping around glass stems and making into mini wreaths for name tags. And, it smells divine to boot. Get creative and see what you can whip up!
We love, love, love Gluhwein. Nothing makes you feel as though you are getting married in a Swiss chalet more than toasting to your vows with a glass of warm, spicy mulled wine. Talk to your caterer and organise to have spices used that tie in with your menu. Cloves, orange rind and cinnamon are standards that always go down a treat.
The Fromage Table
We’ve seen candy bars over and over again, we’ve seen dessert tables more and more. But what we’re loving this winter wedding season, is the cheese table! Replace the lollipops with baguettes, the cupcakes with beautiful wheels of aged cheddar and brie and inject fresh pops of colour with cascading red grapes, apricots, relishes and organic honeycomb. If you’re a real cheese lover, you could hire a chef to cook up traditional Swiss raclette cheese for your guests. Parfait!
The Smores Bar
Not a cheese fanatic like the I Do in a Day office? Surely you can’t say no to a DIY smores bar at your wedding reception! We’ve been seeing some amazing dessert set ups at weddings of late that involve a gorgeous layout of smores ingredients that follows onto little flames where guests can melt their marshmallow creations themselves. Fun, delicious, melty goodness!
