Our I Do in a Day Summer 2015 Wedding Cocktail Menu! (Adults only)

It’s been one hot Summer here at the I Do in a Day office! And as I’m writing this blog at the end of the week, I’ve certainly got a thirst. So that is the motivation behind this topic. We absolutely recognise that a wedding does not need alcohol to be a party, but we also acknowledge that there are a few of you out there who respect a nice tipple and a celebratory cocktail. In light of this, today we bring you our Summer 2015 Wedding Cocktail list! Inspired by our beautiful Summer, by the trends rocking weddings every where and by the incredible produce and flavours that we are blessed with here in our lucky country…

The Aperol Spritz
It’s an oldie, but it will never die. The cocktail industry is seeing a move away from super sweet concoctions to herbal and pleasantly bitter sips. An Aperol Spritz is a perfect aperitif before a big meal and a refreshing accompaniment to a wedding brunch! In a Champagne flute mix 3 parts Prosecco, 2 parts Aperol and 1 part soda water. Easy as pie!

The Sumo Slap
Um, what? you say? Just trust us, this cheeky cocktail is prettier and less painful than it sounds! Gin is massively back in fashion these days. This cocktail doubles as a gorgeous portable decoration for any of you brides out there who have chosen coral as part of your colour scheme. Serve these to your guests on arrival as a citrussy, surprising whistle-wetter. In a shaker, blend 40 ml of good quality gin, 25 ml of sumo mandarin juice, 10 ml of bitters, 15 ml of red Vermouth and ice. Shake, strain and garnish with mandarin peel. Cheers!

Drunken Dragon’s Milk
Did you say beach wedding? Fiji wedding? If you’re thinkin’ tropical, you should be drinkin’ tropical people. This one is a bit out there, but the mix of coconut, lime and pandang create a glass of paradise for the your slightly adventurous guests. In a big shaker mix 60 ml of green tea vodka, 30 ml of young coconut puree, 15 ml of lime juice, 15 ml of pandan syrup and a couple of Thai basil leaves. Shake, shake, shake. Sip, sip, sip. Yum, yum, yum!

The Personalised
What could be cooler, more grown up, than having your own cocktail personally designed for your wedding day? If you have a particularly hip bartender friend, why not ask him to create a drink that samples both of your favourite flavours into one delicious, iconic drop? If you’re hiring a portable bar service, they usually have some pretty funky cocktail artists on hand. Make a request and see what they come up with!

In closing, we’d just like to say drink safely and drink smart always. Cheers to all you bride and grooms-to-be out there, from us here at I Do in a Day!
