capturing the first look

“You know how the bride makes her entrance and everybody turns to look at her? That’s when I look at the groom. Cause his face says it all you know? The pure love there.”

It’s the line we all sighed over in 27 Dresses when Katherine Heigl’s character is telling James Marsden about her favourite moment in every wedding (and is somehow managing to remain oblivious to how adorable he is).

We here at the I Do in a Day office had to agree with Katherine on this one. While everyone is mesmerized by the stunning bride (and rightly so), we love to race our eyes momentarily back to the glowing groom. He is glowing because he is proud. He is glowing because he is grateful. And because he is in awe of how perfect a vision is walking towards him, ready to declare her all consuming love for him in front of everyone. Imagine if you could capture that moment forever? This is exactly what “First Look” wedding photography sessions are for.

“First Look” photo sessions are becoming increasingly popular. This is where the bride and groom get to meet privately before the ceremony. This secret little rendezvous happens when the couple are all dolled up in their finery. It has made for some heart-warming, almost tear-worthy wedding photos!

The bride walks gingerly up behind her man, carefully carrying her skirts. The groom, in his royal blue suit and vintage caramel leather shoes, wears a collected smile. That’s until she taps him on the shoulder or kisses him on the cheek from behind. He looks his blushing bride up and down, she gazes at her handsome man. They quickly both dissolve into laughter, and fall into each others arms. That’s a pretty special moment don’t you think?

Couples have been seen using blindfolds for these shoots, peeping around corners of buildings, hiding behind giant trees in beautiful forests and simply au naturale walking towards each other in a pretty little courtyard.

If you want to save the “unveiling” for the ceremony, be sure to word up your photographer team beforehand. They’ll need to do some planning for positioning to get shots of the groom through the crowd! These shots are always so beautifully sincere. We’d be lying if we said we hadn’t been to at least one wedding where the groom was snapped at this point in the ceremony throwing his hands in the air in triumph. Hilarious? Yes. Adorable? Absolutely!

These candid shots are true captures of the overwhelming emotion you’ll feel on your day of days together. 100% unposed and unedited, immortalized forever. Talk to your I Do in a Day consultant today about assistance in sourcing your wedding photographer and planning your wedding photos.
